There are obvious differences between Chinese and Western cultural, religious and philosophical traditions, which makes it possible for Chinese researchers to have unique perspectives on St. Augustine’s hermeneutics. This article combines St. Augustine’s theory of philosophical hermeneutics with the semiotic theory as well as his opinions on translation studies. Based on the most important research results achieved by Chinese philosophers and linguists, the article describes the characteristics of Chinese researchers’ studies of the foundations of St. Augustine’s hermeneutical, semiotic and translation theories.
