The article analyzes the linguistic interference in the written literary translation of a book of stories by A.P. Chekhov into the Serbian language by a native speaker of the Serbian language. The lexical-semantic and semanticsyntactic levels of interlanguage influence in the Russian and Serbian languages are considered. The effects of destructive interference leading to semantic distortions of the original text are analyzed. The results of the analysis are a feasible contribution to the study of interference in translation and interpreting in closely related languages and could be used for the purposes of applied linguistics. Keywords: linguistic interference, Serbian, Russian, literary text, written translation, stories, closely related languages
