Today, with the fourth industrial revolution at hand [Klaus Schwab, 2011], many of the problems associated with digitalization are also closely connected with the application of various information and computer technologies. The development of modern information technologies and the Internet has significantly facilitated translation work and completely changed practicing translators’ work schedules. It is all the more important to think about the future development of translation as one of the types of communication encompassing various aspects of human life. This paper examines the problems associated with the technological support of translation, the pros and cons of its digitalization, as well as the boundaries and possibilities of using digital technologies in translation. The paper was written in line with modern discussions on the problem of the digitalization of society and its interpretation in philosophy and special sciences (including translation studies) alike while emphasizing various changes occurring to individuals, social spaces and cultures, expressed in the restructuring of the thinking, perception, communication, language, living space and socialization of the individuals. These changes are global cultural challenges in the context of the ideology of transhumanism and the opposing philosophy of confucianism. Keywords: digitalization, translation, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, сonfucianism
